In the nick of time…
After a pleading from NoOnProp8.com and others against California’s Proposition 8, Senator Barack Obama finally speaks out against the measure that would overturn the state’s supreme court ruling to allow same-sex marriage. Former President Bill clinton joins Obama in opposing Prop 8. On Thursday night millions of Californians recieved a phone call (robo call) from President Clinton.
On the call Clinton said,
“This is Bill Clinton calling to ask you to vote NO on Proposition 8 on Tuesday, November 4th. Proposition 8 would use state law to single out one group of Californians to be treated differently — discriminating against members of our family, our friends and our co-workers. If I know one thing about California, I know that is not what you’re about. That is not what America is about. Please vote NO on 8. It’s unfair and it’s wrong. Thank you.”
A recent field poll shows Prop 8 proponents gaining ground with 44% in favor of voting yes to ban gay marriage. That’s only 5% shy of the 49% against the measure. According to the poll 7% are still undecided. Hopefully Obama’s and Clinton’s support for gay rights will make an impact resulting in increased votes against Prop 8 on Tuesday, November 4th.
