My Last Post For A Few Days
Until…
I can get this beast fixed. Here’s the deal. As most of you know I recently upgraded my WordPress installation from 2.2 to 2.6. Everything went fine with the upgrade. No problems, or so I thought. I was busy for a couple of days later working on my blog design so I didn’t notice the problems except for one. That was inherent for everyone who updated from a version earlier than 2.5. All of my categories were missing. It was an easy fix. All I had to do was import them into the new database from the old one.
Then all hell broke loose when I began to write new posts but only if I had to add a new category. Doing so replaced an existing category. Long story short — It’s a mess!
Apparently my database is fucked up. I’m not sure if I did it or WordPress did it during the upgrade. Others have said they’ve had problems too when upgrading from a version earlier than 2.3. The various problems people are having seem to be different but all are bad enough that some have to revert back to their old version and start over.
After several tries, even a clean install but using the new database, all fails. It looks like I too am going to have to revert to my old 2.2 Fantastico install. From there I will upgrade to 2.3 then to 2.5.1 and finally to 2.6 since those are the major releases along the way. My current design/theme is not compatible with Prior versions other than 2.6 so I have no idea what my blog is going to like during all this, lol. Be warned!
In the meantime I won’t be posting anything new and if anyone comments, I’m not sure they’ll be saved. It’s going to be a hassle to save the new posts and comments since the upgrade. So… if you comment on this post or others, they might not be there when it’s all said and done. I’ll probably just end up deleting this post or maybe I’ll leave it as a reminder to upgrade all the time like I should have been doing in the first place [bangs head against desk!]
Later guys…
Update:
It looks like I’ve just about got it licked (as my dad used to say, lol). The new database is looking good after an entire day of working on the beast. Now it’s just a matter of cleaning up a few pages/posts that were corrupted along the way — nothing too bad though. At least I was able to bring everything over. After that it’s back to the designing phase. For me, that’s the fun part!

I love the new look of your website!!!
please get it fixed soon, the
world needs your great posts and hot photos!
