Months ago I happened across a video and I found the beauty, emotion and provocative depth of the artwork astounding. I’ve wanted to feature Karl Lakolak on this site for a long time. He is a French body paint expressionist and artist who takes elements of culture and dance melding them into a stunning artistic works. Visit Karl at his YouTube channel. From there you can view his other amazing videos as well as find a link to his own website which has further works and images that are too expressive for YouTube.

Most likely this video production set to Beethoven is to express artistic freedom and the restraint against it. As unintentional as it may or may not be I find it intriguing how Karl’s most recent video upload coincides beautifully with the U.S. Memorial Day holiday. We, Americans, usually celebrate the Memorial Day weekend with bar-b-ques, picnics and other outdoor groupings among family and friends. We do this to honor the men and women who so bravely serve our country in a seemingly ongoing battle for freedom. Past and present these soldiers risk and sacrifice their lives for their fellow countrymen.

Many ‘holidays’ get lost in the shuffle of excuses to have a good time and forget about what is really important. Memorial Day is notorious for this. Whether it’s going to a party, getting drunk and scoping out a sexual feast from a human meat-rack or spending time with family talking about ourselves, old times or that crazy relative no one likes – what are we really celebrating? Are we honoring those who have fought for us? Probably not much.

Karl Lakolak’s creative portrayal in this artistic expression of the need and want for freedom so vividly reminds us of the anguish, the frustration, the constraint that often entails the journey to freedom. Whether it be our own personal liberation or that of country and men the ties that constrain our freedoms come in many forms. In a battle of freedom there are always more than one side with at least one of opposing nature. Sometimes there is a definitive division of right and wrong but often it is simply a matter of perception, belief or obscure policy resulting in tragedy and loss for naught. Whatever the cause, the greatest price paid for freedom is usually a grand sacrifice. It is that in which we should give honor because in the end it might be worth more than freedom itself.

Steven Daigle - Hot Spots

What happens when a gay role model gets reeled in by one of the porn industries top dogs in the gay Genre?  You get exposed!  That’s according to the new DVD title Steven Daigle XXXposed.

Steven Daigle best known for his short stint on the CBS hit reality hit show, Big Brother season 10 comes from Dallas Tx where his only other claim to fame was within the gay rodeo circuit.  As a pickup driving, cowboy hat wearing gay Texan, Daigle managed to win his way to champion status and take a number one spot in bull riding.  In contrast his mad skilz didn’t play out so well on the CBS show.  Daigle says he played around too much with his new housemates and lost focus on the real game at hand. The dismal end of having too much fun resulted in being voted off the show early on.

He might not have been on BB10 that long but his early departure didn’t stop another very important phenomena from taking shape for the Texas cowboy.  From the moment Daigle was introduced on the CBS show his charisma, charm, witty intellect and southern humor captured the attention and heart of LGBT America – a role model was born.  Perhaps the real winning attribute that Daigle possesses is his masculinity and down home personality.  To talk to him you get the feeling he’s just another guy on the block who wonders why everyone likes him.  His entire persona begs to differ from that all-to-known gay stereotype the mass media prefers to paint the community with.

Gay blog media across the states shouted declarations that its about time we get an “everyday gay man” on the small screen.  He was instantly catapulted into gay heroism and looked upon as a role model for the community by many.  A community that awaited more from him by way of entertainment whether it be more reality shows, like Amazing Race or something else in mainstream television or Hollywood.  Daigle himself even spoke of his desires of doing more in the entertainment industry and hoped for opportunities that might await him.

Steven's Twitter Campaign to gain more followers - it worked!

The months went by and nothing happened, no major opportunities to speak of for our fast fading and invisible role model.  We could speculate that Steven Daigle is just too normal for TV.  There were even rumors floating about that the executives at Big Brother encouraged his ousting at an early date because he wasn’t gay enough.  To be fair to CBS and BB these rumors were sparse and bore no evidence and they were just that, rumors.

Enter Chi Chi LaRue, a former drag queen extraordinaire,  from the Twin Cities now turned Queen of the gay porn industry. Chi Chi has worked with Vivid and Channel1Releasing.  He now owns his own DVD label Rascal and has amassed numerous awards from within the industry putting him on the map as a leader in the field.

LaRue is known for his infatuation with the Big Brother series and as a result has befriended many of its alums.  Upon becoming friends with Daigle, LaRue suggested that he do a porn film for Rascal.  With his acceptance of LaRue’s offer the marketing frenzy began with Daigle saying he never expected to take the path of a gay porn star.  LaRue built up Daigle’s new venture as an exploitation of the reality star’s Big Brother fame.

Daigle’s new blue screen flick has been all a buzz amongst gay porn aficionados and has already reached a best seller status for a pre-release on TLA Video.  While the marketing and promotion for XXXposed has been an all out feast fest what is not so well known is the second film Daigle was cast in.  This comes directly on the heels of the big marketing hype and is appropriate titled Steven Daigle Stalked.  Both are available directly from C1R, TLA Video and other retailers.

Both videos have gotten high reviews from those lucky enough to have seen them before the official release date.  That date is April 16 for XXXposed and shortly after for Stalked.

We’re not quite sure what’s in store for Daigle’s mainstream television future but we are sure he’s got a bright future in the gay film industry.  It could use a real cowboy.

It would appear that he’s thrown out the possibility of being a gay role model.  That is, unless you aspire to be a star in the gay porn industry.  While Daigle never officially claimed the title as a gay role model he did address such aspirations in an interviews after the season finale of Big Brother 10.  At that time he said it was good to let people know that we [gays] are not all the same and come in many different shapes, sizes and personalities and ‘flmaboyancies’ – poking fun at the typical stereotype.

Before anyone takes a jab at Daigle for turning to porn instead of holding out to be the ultimate gay role model you might want to look at it from a more practical perspective.  For many actors in the industry, porn pays the bills and for some others it offers a chance at stardom and fame even if it’s not as glitzy or glamorous as Hollywood.  For Daigle, he was once asked what his thoughts were on gay rights and marriage in particular.  Part of his response was he likes having sex too much to want to get married right now.  So there you have it.  At least we know our reality star is still keeping it real and doing what he likes best while making a buck or two and having fun doing it.

In conclusion if the rumors were true that Steven Daigle wasn’t gay enough for mainstream television then we can’t think of a more prodigious way to prove ‘em wrong than some in-your0face hardcore gayness.  All while looking damn good in a jockstrap and cowboy hat.

Jordan Johnson - Fireflies Parody

This week’ we bring you another parody by Jordan Johnson as he makes light of the current trend of the vampire craze.  With his cultural great pop vocals and witty lines he makes us laugh and smile throughout the video.  The parody is set to music of Fireflies by Owl City.

This isn’t the first time Jordan Johnson has made the Monday Mash  feature here at Lika Starr.  This past January we were one of the first blogs to post his parody of Lady Gaga’s ultimate hit Bad Romance.  Since then that parody has amassed over 200,000 views and still counting.  The Fireflies video was released about a week later as a video response and has also enjoyed much success.

Wow, is it about time or is it waaaaay too early for a book about the life and times of Lady Gaga.

Daylight Breaks, the newest video release from his debut album Little Boys and Dinosaurs.

I recently discovered Cassidy Haley via another artist, Adam Lambert, artist and wow I was impressed.  The dude’s got the right talent, the right style, the right looks.  He just makes you take a step back and say, “Whoah!  That’s damn hot!”

Cassidy recently signed on with a new record label.  The label, Sunshine Rebel Records, his is own – now that’s the way to do it.  Take it and make it your own.  No handlers or big time execs telling you how to do this, do that, what to wear, how to sing, what the “public” is perceived to want.  Seriously, how can you be the best when you can’t be yourself?  Sure, Cassidy may sign with a major label someday but it will be after he lays the groundwork of who he is and how he wants things done.  At that point, there’s no turning back and no being made by someone else.  I’ve got nothing but respect for this man for doing it the right way and his way.

Dolce&Gabbana - Madonna Sketch

I came across these wonderful sketches while searching the web for more info pertaining to Madonna’s upcoming ad campaign for Dolce&Gabbana to be featured in the the Italian version of Vanity Fair magazine.

Swide Magazine are offering up the sketches in nice size formats on their flickr page.  The sketches by D&G are in celebrations of Madanna’s career offering renditions representing the different personas the Queen of Pop has taken upon herself over the years.  Quite fabulous indeed.

If you’re a Madonna fan of old or new you’ll certainly appreciate the work and thought put into these drawings.  I’m not sure if D&G ever plans to sell these as reprints on the open market but I do see a place for them in various settings of decor and collector galleries.  Madonna fans aside, these pieces offer an avid admiration of pop culture with an eclectic funk that certainly runs the gamut of decades in entertainment – stunning!

Thousands of fans gathered together via live stream to watch their Bad Boy do his thing and rock the stage.  The video streams weren’t of great quality but they were enough to satisfy hungry fans.  That is after a let down by ABC when it announced several weeks ago it was pulling the popular American Idol runner up from its televised Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve event.

For those who have been hiding under a rock and because I’ve been bad and never posted about it on this blog, read on…

Adam Lambert performed the “should be a hit” single For Your Entertainment on ABC’s American Music Awards.  During that show the singer got caught up in the moment and on impulse to add to the song’s lyrical nature decided to act out some the words.  By doing he planted a male dancer’s face in his crotch, lip-locked his guitarist, popped the thong of a female dancer amongst other insinuated nasties.

Janet Jackson and Shakira both gestured similar antics in their performances, yet neither faced the wrath of the overblown network’s reactions against Lambert.  Comparatively to the millions of viewers watching the program, only a handful officially complained, yet there were no reported complaints against the other performers.  Lambert rightfully proclaimed it was because he’s an openly gay male – that’s just something you don’t see on TV.  Yet female performers get away with all the time.

Several fans have vowed to boycott the network until it apologizes to Adam Lambert.  With Adam’s single and album sales together approaching 800,000 world-wide since the official release in November, the number of people shunning ABC could be quite large. With the original complaints totaling a measly 1500, there’s really no comparison.

Adam, while in Miami for a performance at the Jingle Ball, did some shopping and picked up a pair of pink boxer-briefs from LMFAO.  The “undies” as Adam calls them, feature a crotch-grabbing hand print on the front and big bold message on the backside that reads, “Don’t Judge Me.”  Fitting might be the appropriate word to describe the bold pair in light of the recent (very over-blown) controversy surrounding the singer’s recent AMA gig.

Proudly showing off his new purchase, Adam flaunts his pink undies with true rebel-style.  That’s what we love about Adam.

I don’t really frequent clubs these days so I can’t say that I’ve seen this guy before.  But, I can say that he looked strikingly familiar.  For some reason this young hottie reminded me of someone I’d seen before in a similar setting – his moves, his body, his hair, his face.

I’ve seen lots of male strippers and gogo boys in my adult life so I couldn’t imagine why this particular guy played with my curiosity so much. It wasn’t until this morning that it hit me.

Brazil – 2005!  While in Brazil on a drunken night out on the town with an ex-lover there was a gogo dancer at one club who kept looking my way.  No, it wasn’t the usual “hey, look how hot I am” stuff.  During one of his breaks we talked briefly, apparently he was fascinated by whatever it was I was wearing (don’t remember what it was now, lol) at the time.  The next evening I saw this same guy again, only this time he was performing as a center stage stripper.

His name:  André Zanette.  Needless to say, he left an impression on me.  I wonder what he’s doing now…?  Still side-lining as gogo boy in Brazil?  Who knows – but I’ve found some photos of this blast from the past and even a hot video to upload to YouTube.  I’ll call this an extended Sexy Sunday.  You can view the many NSFW photos on the Dark Side – Enjoy!

In a conversation this morning with Joe while drinking our “Morning Joe” the subject of teabagging came up.  No, not the dip-your-nuts in some hot dude’s (or chick’s) mouth kind.  I’m talking Republicans acting like raging, ranting lunatics and well…just being themselves.  Ok, that’s a little extreme but you get the point.  In reality the whole Republican/Teabagger/Teabagging thing started with the onset of the Republican Tea Party protest this past April on Tax Day. To teabag Obama and all liberals, for that matter, was apparently the ultimate message to get accross.

Up until this morning I’d never heard of Republicans referenced as teabaggers or the act of teabagging due to their political views or even referenced as such from the previously mentioned Tea Parties.  Hell, I seriously doubted that any right-wing extremist even knew what “teabagging” was in the first place so in my mind how could they be teabaggers?  I argued my point with Joe and he assured me that it is common knowledge and made a clear point to excuse my ignorance because I’m from a “s-u-t-h-e-r-n” state.  Ok, fair enough, I agreed, because it IS true that sometimes us southerners are sheltered a bit from the wild was of the North, East and WEST!

Anyway…

After savoring the rich hearty cuppa joe with Joe I had a couple of short errands to run before heading home.  All the while, I still had teabagging (mixed with my own tried and true meaning) and Republicans on my mind.  My political savvy and intellect quickly went out the window of my car.  Bill O’Rielly came to mind but quickly exited as a I envisioned something unspeakable involving me personally.  I wanted to puke and I wasn’t even the recipient!

From that point on, my mind continued on its warped mission with a comical twist.  I had imaginary (sick but funny) visions of Glenn Beck bagging the old bagger himself (O’Reilly) now that was some funny stuff, not to mention a sort-of avenge to my previous super warped thought.   Then it got even better – McCain does Palin!  Yes, Palin, Sarah Palin the biggest baddest lipstick wearing barracuda of all!  I was satisfied and teabagging, Republicans and all left my mind.

I get home and check my email.  There was a new message from Joe saying he enjoyed our morning and thanked me, again, for the entertainment at the expense of my own ridicule – his way of being funny.  I replied telling him it was my pleasure but his new nick-name is now coffeebagger – my dorky way of being funny.  He quickly replied saying that teabagging is more fun – too cute!

Thanks to Joe’s cute reply and another brief visual (hey, Joe is kinda hot) teabagging was once again on my mind.  I took Joe’s suggestion and did the video search (see above) and was quite impressed.  But that wasn’t enough.  I wanted to see just how popular this Republican/Teabagging thing really is.  That’s when I went to the trusty Urban Dictionary (see above photo) and there I was hit with the biggest baddest balls of all – Sarah Palin!  Now it all makes perfect sense.

I can’t help but wonder if the keywords for that well place Google ad are “Rrepublican Teabagger.”

2012 doesn’t offer any real excitement in the way of keeping you on the edge of your seat and wondering what’s going to happen next but it is still worth seeing.  The entertainment value comes at a movie theater price tag as it is meant to be seen on the big screen.  Watching this on a home 42inch flat screen will disappoint.  There’s just too much going on to take in all in on such a small screen. 

My suggestion: Don’t break a $100 bill on an evening out.  Instead, hit the McDonalds drive-thru on your way to pick up a matinee on the weekend and get your money’s worth.

If it weren’t for the acting know-how of veterans, John Cusack, Danny Glover and Woody Harrelson, this movie probably would have been a walker.  Other than the super believably unbelievable special effects the best thing about 2012 is when the credits role at the end of the movie – Adam Lambert sings Time for Miracles.

I give this movie 3 1/2 stars with one of them going to Lambert.

I saw the photo above of beautiful model, Renato Ferriera, who is represented by Major Model Management and fell in love with his charming good looks.  As evidenced by the sign being held by Renato he loves Made In Brazil, a very trendy blog that covers a wide variety all things Brazil in fashion, entertainment and tourism.  With its forward thinking appeal and just the right amount of hotness going on, it’s not your everyday blog.

I’ve always been an avid reader of MIB and since they have decided to feature Renato along the sidebar of their blog with a big pink heart I felt compelled to share the love – We love Made in Brazil too!

It’s really hard to imagine that any man or woman with a modern sense of lifestyle hasn’t crossed pixels with this digital Brazilian showcase.  But… If by chance you haven’t, please do check it out.  You surely won’t be disappointed and will most definitely mark it as a priority on your daily “to do” list.  Yeah, it’s that good.

Watch the video for his answer.  In true Buck Hollywood style, he’s about as gay as gay can be.  Well, almost!  I love Buck but I don’t think any of us really needed a confirmation on his sexual orientation.  Did we?  Then again, he’s a fun up-spirited kinda guy who never seems to have down moment.  So I say:  “You go boy…  Have fun with it!”

In case you missed it – In a recent interview with Bilerico, Buck says he’s known he was gay since he was four years old watching the Dukes of Hazzard.  Must have been Bo Duke and those tight (very tight) jeans.  But, at four?  Yikes!  And, they say we’re not born gay.  Please…

This video is the early December and has hit the internet like like a storm.  The video features The Lonely Island, a comedy/music group made up of members Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone.  The song Jizz in My Pants is the first single off the bands debut album Incredibad.  Look for guest appearances in the video by Justin Timberlake, Molly Sims and Jamie Lynn Sigler.

The album is scheduled for release February 10, 2009.  The bands official site can be found here.

Andy Samberg – "We definitely wanted it to be a classic comedy album, but also one you put on more than once. We’ve gone out of our way to make it musically pleasing. We started on a few songs that were not funny enough, for us, but they sounded pretty cool. And the bottom line for the project was, ‘Is it going to be funny first and music second?’ I think it’s 95 percent music, and we hope people would throw it on and bump it."

The Lonely Island is also responsible for other smash digital shorts like, Dick in a Box. Both digital shorts were on featured SNL (Saturday Night Live).  The three members of the comedy/music group currently write for the show.

Hottie singer and actor, Jay Brannan, who also wants to be someone’s housewife is having a sucky Christmas and wants some pancakes.  Have another cigarette Jay, it’ll get better.  It really is a great song for those feeling alone on Christmas day.  I can remember a couple of those in years passed.  It does suck!
