Local Police in Johnson City, TN make 40 arrests in conjunction with a sex sting at two city parks over a 2 week period. The local media, Johnson City Press, publicized an article on their website listing the first and last names and nature of offenses associated with each of these men. The article on the site also links to a photo gallery showcasing each of the men’s photographs.

The sting was part of a 2 week long investigation by City Police. “Our parks are for family use. People should not be exposed to this while they are out there with their family or trying to enjoy the walking trails,” said Johnson City Police Chief John Lowry. “They are not built nor maintained for sexual activity, be it homosexual activity or heterosexual activity.” Apparently, Chief Lowry is trying to be politically correct in his statement. However, he pretty much negates ththat correctness with the following statement. “Part of this took place off the paved trails. There’s a thing out there (at Winged Deer Park) they’ve evidently termed the ‘Man Cave,’ ” Lowry said. “It’s a good way off the paved trail. It’s underbrush that’s grown up and resembles a cave.” – see photo insert above.
31 arrests were made at Winged Deer Park and 9 at Buffalo Mountain Park. The men arrested were from Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. The two parks have become known by word of mouth as a place for men to meet for homosexual encounters.
Johnson City Press gets graphic while describing exactly what went down during the sting operation, “During their investigation, undercover officers often would strike up a conversation with a man who was approaching the trail leading to the Man Cave. The conversation quickly would turn sexual and, many times, led to proposals for sex, police said. Several men exposed their genitals to the officers, while a few even groped the investigators without being provoked.”
They go on to clearly point out that two of men hold “trusted” positions within the city, one a teacher and the other a Pastor at a local church.

Articles like this piss me off and here’s why. It’s not the news reporting itself but rather the manner in which its done. I realize what these men have done is wrong, unethical and even against the law. But why list all the men’s names and their photographs? I’m quite sure that most of these men are married with families. It’s not only them you are persecuting, but also their families. Some of these men will now be faced with the loss of jobs to provide for their families, their children will suffer. I suppose this is OK with you since it’s a sacrifice for the betterment of society in your twisted view of the laws of nature. Excuse me, I mean God’s Law!
These men wouldn’t feel compelled to partake in such activity in public parks and restrooms if they weren’t so damn afraid to come out of the closet. And, why is that? It’s because they are afraid of being shunned and ridiculed by family, friends, co-workers and their religion. But who needs friends when you’ve got the local media with their bigoted reporting ethics to do it for you. When is society going to realize that acts of behavior like this happens because of bigotry and prejudices against homosexuals.
There is only one name that should have been included in the article by Johnson City Press and that is the name of the Pastor and only if he preaches against homosexuality in church sermons. The other “trusted” person, who is a teacher, should not have been singled out. What does being a teacher have to do with being a homosexual? Apparently, it has nothing to do with the crime itself since the other 38 suspects were not hyped with their career professions.
I will not list names, not even the Pastor’s name. I don’t go to his church so I don’t know first-hand what his public stance on homosexuality is. I do not even live near Tennessee but this type of reporting affects the entire GLBT community no matter where you live. It’s narrow-mindedness like this that portrays our community as a self-serving group of sinners who are only into getting off with each other and shoving it in everyone else faces. Imagine if the tables were reversed. That heterosexual behavior were outlawed or viewed as a religious and moral sin. What lengths would straight people go to satisfy their own inner urges to be with each other intimately and how they would be viewed by the majority?
We all know that hatred against gays is largely based on religious beliefs. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again and I’ll keep saying it. The bible was NOT written by God himself. It was written by men. Yes real live men, mortal men, like you and me. It was written specifically for the times in which they lived and what their beliefs entailed during that specific period. There are tons of examples in the Bible of laws that most religions do not condone today. Do we require that a motherless widow have sexual intercourse with her deceased husband’s brothers in turn until she become pregnant? Do we condemn young women to death by stoning who have lost their virginity before marriage? Do we sever a man’s penis if he masturbates and ejaculates, letting his sperm fall to the ground?
If we followed those examples no man would have a penis. The childless widow wouldn’t be able to have sex with her deceased husband’s brothers because their penises were severed when they were caught jacking off. The young woman might be spared since she’d have a difficult time finding a guy who even had a penis allowing her to lose her virginity. In reality, humans would most likely be non-existent. Come on people, get real!
Those are only three of the many preposterous “laws” of the Bible. Now you tell me why the way homosexuality is condemned in the Bible is not just as preposterous. Never mind, do not tell me. Believe me; I’ve heard it all before and it’s always the same load of crap.

If these men are married shouldn’t their wives know they are cheating on them? If it were with a woman it wouldn’t be homosexual it would be hetrosexual and still wrong. Their wives need to know if they and their children have been exposed to a S.T.D. that their rump ranger husbands may have brought home.
I agree the wives should know if their husbands are cheating. However, it’s not the police department or the media’s responsibility to do so. That is a matter between the husband and wife.

If hetrosexual sex ( the normal people sex) was frowned upon then we would do it in private places.
We’re all normal. Openly gay people also do “it” in private places. My suggestion was that most of these men are probably closeted gays. Hence, if it were the other way around and you were a closeted heterosexual then you’d find ways fulfill your needs.
The reason for publishing these people’s names was so us normal people could keep them away from our children. I don’t need or want a preacher or teacher telling my kids that it was Adam and Steve not Adam and Eve.
Keeping them away from your kids? What does any of this have to do with kids. I’m sure if the preacher or teachers that were involved had been teaching a gay lifestyle to children they would have already been exposed to the public eye. Sexual encounters between consenting “adults” has nothing to do with kids.

Yet, at the same time I think it has a lot to do with our society’s demeaning of homosexuality that forces them to hide in the closet resulting in such activity.
